A. External valve view in SEM. The tangentially undulate valve face central area is visible. Also visible are the external openings of the marginal strutted processes (msp), which are simple pores with a short siliceous rim. The external openings of the central strutted processes (csp) are also visible and appear as simple pores. The external opening of the labiate process (lp) is present as an elongate pore on the valve mantle slightly above the horizon of the marginal strutted processes. Scale bar equals ten microns.
