A. External valve view in SEM. The valve face is concentrically undulate. Spines are located at every other interfascicle on the valve face/ mantle junction. Also visible on the valve mantle, just below the valve face mantle junction is an external tubular extension of a labiate process (lp), which appears as a hollow spine. Below each spine on the valve mantle is an external tubular extension of the marginal strutted process (msp). Scale bar equals ten microns.
