C. External valve mantle view in SEM. A spine is visible at the valve face/ mantle junction. The external marginal strutted process pore is located beneath the spine and has a slight siliceous rim. The external labiate process opening, not seen here, also appears as a simple pore beneath a spine. Scale bar equals one micron.
